In the current North American market, sourcing or selecting a green roof is no simple matter.  Comparing your options among most green roof providers is like comparing apples to oranges. Most green roof specifications typically do not include enough information to intelligently compare the performance characteristics of one green roof assembly to another. If that weren’t confusing enough, complete American green roof performance standards have yet to be established.

So, how do you know that the green roof you are buying is going to live and to perform as promised – for the long-term?

Who are we?

Being able to confidently answer this question for our clients is at the heart of our mission. Since its inception about a decade ago, Roofscapes, Inc. has been committed to developing performance-based specifications for green roofs designed to perform.  Green roofs are not usually “off-the-shelf” products.  If appropriately designed and built, they can function predictably to achieve selected objectives, including stormwater management, water quality improvement, aesthetic appeal, energy cost reduction, etc. Our mission to develop green roof assemblies that work and flourish for decades underlies every aspect of our work. In that spirit, we have played an instrumental role is developing the first of the new American green roof standards, being published by the ASTM. We also guaranty that all of our green roof assemblies are compliant with the internationally highly regarded German green roof design guidelines.

Roofscapes, Inc. is a green roof engineering, design and installation firm with expertise in civil engineering, roof gardening, roofing and waterproofing.  Years of research and practice have established Roofscapes, Inc. as one of the most highly regarded green roof knowledge bases in the country. We fundamentally understand the constellation of roofing, engineering, horticultural, hydrologic and thermodynamic issues that contribute to the long-term viability and success of any green roof.  

How do we work?

Roofscapes, Inc. is a full-service green roof installation firm, but, unlike our competitors, we do not sell or distribute any one manufacturer’s products. We select and source products that will best optimize the performance and aesthetic of the entire green roof system.  We provide both design consulting or design/build services:

• Roofscapes, Inc. can be retained solely to provide green roof engineering and design services, including sealed green roof construction documents (specifications, plans, details, plant lists, etc.), as needed. 
• Additionally, Roofscapes, Inc. encourages building owners to consider a design/build approach, the most cost-effective way to purchase a green roof.  In our design/build projects, Roofscapes, Inc. provides the design / engineering support, described above, and oversees installation by one of the licensed green roof installation companies in the national Roofscapes, Inc. Network. Moreover, Roofscapes, Inc. collaborates with several premium waterproofing companies, permitting us to offer comprehensive warranties and service agreements on every project we install.
